Becky and her husband Duane, as well as their daughter Amanda and her husband, Matt Tortorello, all graduated from Biola University. Becky studied business administration at Biola and worked in business and real estate before returning to go to school to become an RN. She served as a labor and delivery RN for Kaiser, Walnut Creek. Becky and Duane live in Incline Village, Nev., and co-founded Clear Capital, the largest privately owned property valuation company in the U.S.
G. Bradley Cole
Mr. Cole was elected to the board February 2002 and serves on the Finance and Audit Committee as well as the Committee on the President. He is Chief Operating Officer of Genomic Health, Inc., a molecular diagnostics product company, located in Redwood City, California. Brad and his wife, Christy (Montgomery, a Biola alumna), are the parents of two daughters, Amy and Megan, both Biola graduates. The Coles live in Los Altos Hills.
Dr. Barry H. Corey became the eighth president of Biola University on July 1, 2007. Barry and his wife, Paula, have three children, Anders, Ella and Sam. The Coreys live in Fullerton.
Adam serves on the Advancement Committee and is the Lead Pastor of NewSong Los Angeles Convenant Church in Culver City. He earned his BA and MA in Inter-Cultural Studies from Biola University and his MBA from Emory University. Adam has a background in business and entrepreneurship as well.
David Gyertson was born in Toronto, Canada. He is headmaster of Maranatha High School in Pasadena, CA. Prior to arriving at Maranatha he served as Distinguished Professor of Leadership Formation and Renewal at Regent University in Virginia. He was a founding team member of the university in 1977 and returned as president in 1990. He holds a Ph.D. from Michigan State University with a concentration in higher education administration and management. Dr. Gyertson served as president of Asbury University (Kentucky) and Taylor University (Indiana). He is an ordained minister and a flotilla staff officer with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. David’s wife, Nancy, is a retired elementary school teacher. David and Nancy have one daughter, Andrea, and two grandchildren, Emma and Justin.
Mr. Hanger was elected to the board in May 1985 and presently serves on the Finance and Audit Committee. He is a retired partner from Ernst and Young after 33 years in management consulting. Dwight and his wife, Vicki, live in Rancho Palos Verdes.
Dr. Haque was elected to the board in July 2007 and serves on the Advancement Committee as well as the Committee on the President. He is Managing Partner of Norwest Venture Partners in Palo Alto. He and his wife, Dorcas, live in Saratoga, California.
Carol Stewart Hawkins
Ms. Hawkins was elected to the board in November 2005 and serves on the Facilities and Services Committee. Carol’s home is in Upland where she serves on the staff of Life Bible Fellowship Church.
Mr. Jantz joined the board in July 1999. He also serves as chair of the Committee on the President. Stan is a writer and marketing consultant and also the co-founder and managing partner of Conversant Media Group, a new media publishing company. Stan and his wife, Karin, met at Biola and have two children, both graduates of Biola. The Jantzs live in Huntington Beach.
Mr. Johnson was elected to the board in August 2004 and is serving on the Finance and Audit Committee. He has worked as a financial consultant at Merill Lynch for more than 25 years. Ray and his wife, Betsy, live in Fullerton.
Allan G. Kavalich
Dr. Kavalich was elected to the board in November 1999 and currently chairs the Advancement Committee and is a member of the Board Nominating and Development Committee. Dr. Kavalich is a physician (Nephrology) and Medical Director of the San Bernardino Valley Dialysis Center. Allan and his wife, Gig, live in Redlands, California.
David Kinnaman is the husband of Jill and dad to Emily, Annika and Zack. He serves as president and majority owner of Barna Group and is the author of two books, You Lost Me and unChristian. Since joining Barna in 1995, David has overseen studies, polling the opinions and perspectives of more than 500,000 individuals. He often speaks about faith and religious trends, teenagers and twenty-somethings, as well as vocation and calling. David lives in Ventura and loves southern California and his hometown of Phoenix, Arizona.
Kelly Monroe Kullberg
Kelly founded the Veritas Forum at Harvard in 1992. Veritas explores the world's hardest questions in relation to biblical truth and Jesus Christ. Forums are now in 200 secular universities around the world. With a passion for American renewal, and encouraged by Chuck Colson for such a time as this, Kelly is now developing The America Conservancy to unite leaders in every pillar of culture in projects to rebuild and renew.
Hannah Fair Lee
Mrs. Lee has served on the board since May 1998 and is chair of the Student Development Committee and a member of the Board Nominating and Development Committee. Hannah is a homemaker and mother of two children as well as being involved in private management of commercial and residential properties. Hannah and her husband, Chuck, live in Newport Coast.
Reverend Loritts was elected to the board in March 2010 and assigned to the Advancement Committee. Bryan Loritts is the lead pastor of Fellowship Memphis, a mulitcultural church ministering to the community of urban Memphis, Tennessee, where his dream is to see all believers - regardless of race - walking with each other under the banner of the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Each Sunday 1,300 people attend Fellowship Memphis. Bryan and his wife, Korie, have three sons and live in Collierville, Tennessee.
Wayne B. Lowell (Chair)
Mr. Lowell was elected to the board in November 2000 and is now board chair. He also serves on the Board Nominating and Development Committee and is chair of the Finance and Audit Committee. Wayne is the former executive vice president, chief financial and chief administrative officer of PacifiCare Health Systems and is now a consultant providing strategic and operating advice to boards of directors, CEOs and CFOs of venture capital and publicly owned companies. He and his wife, Nan, live in Irvine.
Michael Maples (Vice Chair)
Mike Maples earned a B.S. in business administration from San Jose State University and a Master of Divinity from Bethel Seminary. He is the Co-Founder and a Managing Partner of Trumark Companies, which focuses on real estate development. Mike and his wife, Jeanie, live in Corona Del Mar and have four children, three of whom attended Biola. They currently attend Mariners Church in Irvine. Mike has also served on the Board with Hume Lake Christian Camps, The Gathering and San Diego Christian College.
Dr. Al Mijares was elected to the board in November 2007 and is a member of the Academic Affairs Committee. Dr. Mijares served as superintendent of the Santa Ana Unified School District for 11 years and is now Vice President of the Western Regional Office of the College Board providing leadership with a focus on regional and state education initiatives. He and his wife, Jackie, live in Tustin.
David J. Mitchell
Dr. Mitchell was elected to the board in November 1999 and is presently a member of the Academic Affairs Committee and the Committee on the President. Dr. Mitchell is senior pastor of Calvary Church, Santa Ana, as well as chaplain with the Santa Ana Police Department. He and his wife, Joy, live in Tustin and have two daughters who graduated from Biola.
Mr. Paul was elected to the board in July 2014 and presently serves on the Advancement committee. Philip is a technology entrepreneur and leads the CastNet Group in Southern California. He and his wife, Kanchana have three daughters, Samantha, Andrea and Erika. The Pauls make their home in Yorba Linda, California.
Dr. Jerry Rueb was elected to the board in November 2000. He chairs the Facilities and Services Committee and also serves on the Board Nominating and Development Committee. He currently ministers as Lead Pastor of Cornerstone Church in Long Beach. Jerry and his wife, Sue, live in Huntington Beach.
Mr. Siefker was elected to the board in August 1994 and presently serves as chair of the Board Nominating and Development Committee and is a member of the Student Development Committee. Retired after many years with a health care organization he now contributes his time, talent and resources as an informal consultant to developing Christian ministries. John and his wife, Lynn, make their home in Newport Coast.
Kennith O. Thompson
Dr. Thompson was elected to the board in July 1992 and serves on the Academic Affairs Committee. He has a surgical practice in Whittier, where he and his wife, Sandra, reside.
Mr. VandeKamp, a retired EY Partner and now General Partner at Cultivation Capital, joined the board in September 2014. He and Leasa live in St. Louis and have two married children (1 Biola grad) and a son (Biola student).
