​Welcome Meet & Greet for Business Majors, Crowell School of Business Lobby​
Business students and parents are invited to meet Crowell School of Business Dean, Gary Lindblad, Business Chair, Dave Bourgeois and Business faculty and staff.  At 11am our Academic Advisor will hold an advising session and be available to answer questions. We are excited to meet you and welcome you to the Business major!

Liberal Studies Department Welcome Reception, Moats Lecture Hall (Business 109)
Liberal Studies students and parents are invited to formally meet School of Education Dean, Dr. June Hetzel, and Liberal Studies Chair, Dr. Lorena Vidaurre. This is a time to welcome all new students and parents, so come and join us for a brief program presentation starting at 4 pm in Business 109. After the presentation, students and parents are invited to walk over to Sutherland Hall upstairs for a School of Education tour, and to meet and greet faculty and staff. Light refreshments will be available during the tour. You won't want to miss this!

Commuter Parent/Guardian and Student Reception, The Collegium
Off-Campus Students and their Parents are invited to the Collegium--Biola’s home-away-from-home for students who live off-campus! Come enjoy refreshments and meet Commuter Life staff before the University Welcome. Coming without a parent? No worries! This is a great chance to get to know the many other transfer and freshman students who are commuting to Biola.

You won’t want to miss this first official welcome to the Biola University community! President Barry H. Corey, our faculty, staff and students will join you to kick off the academic year and recognize the work of the Lord in bringing each student to Biola.

As students rush off to meet their SOS group, parents and students’ sponsors will be introduced to the Office of Parent Relations and learn about services and events meant to support you and your family throughout your student’s education.

Commuter Parent Continental Breakfast, Collegium - Upper Student Union
For families with students living off campus, we welcome you to join the Commuter Life staff for a light breakfast. There will be brief introductions, followed by an opportunity to ask questions.

Meet and Greet with Residence Life (On-campus housing), Horton Hall Quad and Hope Hall Amphitheater
For families with students living on campus, this is your opportunity to meet the professionals who oversee life in the various residence halls.

Young Siblings Fun in the Sun, Café Banquet Room ***
*Registration required, $30/child (includes lunch). 
Siblings ages 5-13 are invited to join student leaders from Biola Youth Academics for snacks, games, swimming, and interactive activities while parents attend seminars. Check in begins at 10:00 am at the Cafe Banquet Room. Parents need to complete and submit a medical/photo release form for each child involved in the sibling events on Saturday.  Please note, registration will close at 7:30 pm on Wednesday,  August 23.  Walk-ins will be accepted on a first come, first served basis depending on available space. Register your kids now!

Your Student’s Academic Success, Sutherland Hall
Adjusting to college level academics will be a challenge for many of our students and a concern for some parents and guardians. In this session you will learn how Biola prepares students for academic success and how parents can have access to student information, and communication landmines, and offer suggestions to successfully navigate the college transition. Translation in Spanish and Korean available

Hear their heart for our students as they share stories from inside and outside the classroom. There will be time for Q & A.

Your Student’s Spiritual Development Seminar, Sutherland Hall
The development of your student’s spiritual life is a top priority for Biola. Hear from the office of Spiritual Development as they share the opportunities available to your student as well as how you can support your student along in their faith journey. Translation in Spanish and Korean available

Parent Orientation about Student Life/Campus Safety, Sutherland Hall

Safety: Chief John John Ojeisekhoba
Your student’s safety is important to us. You will hear directly from Campus Safety Chief John Ojeisekhoba about the measures in place to keep your student safe and protected. Chief John will address officer training, campus surveillance, emergency and disaster preparedness, and student care issues.

Student Care: Sandy Hough
In this session Sandy Hough,  Associate Dean, Residence Life will discuss the role of Residence Life staff and programming in supporting your student’s academic and personal growth.

Health and Wellness Resources: Health Center Staff
Illness, injury and mental health struggles are not uncommon among college students. Hear directly from our Health Center staff about the resources available to your student.

1:45 – 2:30 p.m.
First Generation Family Dessert Reception, Sycamore Lawn***
This reception is to welcome new first generation college students  (i.e., students who are in the first generation of their family to earn a bachelor's degree), parents and family members.  All are invited to attend this dessert reception to learn about Biola's First Generation community​, meet campus leaders, and connect to information and resources. For catering purposes, please pre-register online.

2:45 – 3:30 p.m.
Information session to be a Parent Ambassador, Andrews Banquet Room in Talbot East
Come and learn about the many opportunities to volunteer as a Parent Ambassador while connecting with other Biola parents. Volunteer opportunities will include helping at events like Biola Weekend, University Day and others

3:30 – 4:45 p.m.
SOS Parents’ Forum, Sutherland Hall
Parents, come ready to get to know your student’s SOS leader. This tradition enables you to hear first-hand from this qualified group of student leaders what your student will be doing during these first weeks. You can also hear personal testimonies and gain valuable insight from these leaders. Each year, this has proven to be a special time as you meet the orientation staff.

Biola Backyard BBQ for all students, parents/guardians and families, Tent at Flour Fountain
All new students and parents are invited to enjoy a delicious complimentary dinner before attending the Communion Service that will take place on Metzger Lawn. This is a come-and-go event.

Communion Service with President Corey for new students, parents/guardians and families, Metzger Lawn
Our University President, Dr. Barry H. Corey, brings this busy day to a close by sharing in one of our most memorable traditions, a communion service for students and their families. This is a time where you will hear testimonies and praises given by some of your fellow students. This concludes the parent and family portion of Biola Welcome Week. Thank you for joining us and please travel home safely.
    
This concludes the parent programing and we ask that you say your goodbyes to your student at this time. Sunday is a full and important day of student-ONLY orientation, and your student’s participation is critical to their adjustment to university life.

**If your student is an International, MK, Torrey Honors Institute student or athlete, please keep in mind that they may be asked to arrive to campus prior to this date for housing check-in and additional orientation activities. Details will be provided by the specific program or coach.
