Spam Control - Postini

Postini Message Center is a filtering service that identifies and isolates junk mail, virus-infected mail, and hoaxes.

Features

  • Choose which messages deliver to your inbox from the daily Postini quarantine email.
  • Adjust filter sensitivities to determine how aggressively to filter your email for spam.
  • Manage other “@biola.edu” addresses with your Postini account, consolidating multiple email accounts into a single Postini Message Center account.

How do I sign in to Postini Message Center?

On the Postini Message Center screen, https://login.postini.com, enter your Biola University email address and Postini password. The Postini password is set the first time you sign in.

First Time Access

Use your Biola University email address (firstname.lastname@biola.edu) and the temporary password sent to you in the Postini Message Center welcome email. You will change the temporary password the first time you sign in to Postini.

Lost your password or your Welcome email?

At the Postini Message Center log in screen, https://login.postini.com, click ‘Forgot your password?’ You will be prompted to ensure you want to reset your password. Click Yes. Postini will send a new temporary password to your email address. Use the temporary password to sign in and set a new password.

Tip: First try your NetID password.

Q&A

Postini FAQs

  1. How can I release an email from the quarantine before I receive the daily Postini quarantine email?

    1. Log in to https://login.postini.com.
    2. Make sure the Junk tab is selected.
    3. Review and select the message(s) you want to release.
    4. Click Deliver. Postini will deliver the message(s) to your inbox.
  2. How do I block spam? How do I add an email address to the “Block Senders” list in Postini?

Most Spam is automatically blocked for you. To add an address that Postini Message Center didn’t block, do the following:

    1. Log in to https://login.postini.com.
    2. Click on My Settings in the upper right corner of the page.
    3. Click on Block Senders in the “Junk Settings” section.

To block the sender’s email address, type the address into the “Blocked Senders” field, then click Update Blocked Senders.

To block everything from the sender’s domain, type the domain name (Example: jumboinc.com) into the “Blocked Domains” field, then click Update Blocked Domains.

  3. How do I add an email address to the “Approve Senders” list in Postini?

    1. Log in to https://login.postini.com.
    2. Click on My Settings in the upper right corner of the page.

    5. Click Update Approved Senders.
  4. Are there any web browsers I should avoid when using Postini?

Most browsers will work with Postini. Please use the latest version of the browser software.

  5. How do I fine-tune my junk email blocking in Postini?

By default, Postini Message Center applies a “strict” filter policy to your account. If too many emails are blocked that shouldn’t be, or not enough Spam emails are blocked, you can adjust the filter to accommodate.

    1. Log in to https://login.postini.com.
    2. Click on My Settings in the upper right corner of the page.
    3. Click Manage Junk Filters in the “Junk Settings” section.
    4. Click on the Overall Junk Filter menu, and select a filtering strength.
    5. You can also click on Show Category Filters to raise the blocking strength for specific types of messages.
    6. Click Save Settings when you’re done adjusting your settings, or just leave the page if you don’t want to save your changes.
