Setup on Windows
This page will go over the one-time setup process needed for you to use DigiNet from your own computer. Once you’ve followed these instructions, you’ll need to open the DigiNet Pop-up page every time you want to print from your computer.
Printer Setup
Your computer must have the proper printer settings to send jobs to DigiNet. The following steps will take you through the process of setting up a connection to a Windows shared printer. If you want to print Color and Black and White, you’ll need to go through this process twice — once for each printer.
-
Go to Start and select Run and type
\\10.6.2.61
-
If prompted for a login, type guest with no password
-
For Black and White Printing right click on the DigiNetBW printer and select connect
-
For Black and White Printing right click on the DigiNetBW printer and select connect
-
For Color Printing right click on the DigiNetColor printer and select connect
Install Java Runtime Environment
Now that your computer has the correct printers setup, you need to make sure you can use the DigiNet Pop-up Java Applet. This requires the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) to be installed on your computer.
-
Use the verification page to see if you already have the JRE installed. Click here to check.
-
If you don’t have the JRE installed, go back to the verification page and follow the instructions to install it.
Configure Firewall Exception
The DigiNet Pop-up Java Applet will try and listen for the DigiNet Print Server. If you have a firewall turned on you must create an exception (also called hole) for TCP port 6182. If you are using Windows XP SP2’s built in firewall, follow the instructions in this section. If you are using a different firewall, then follow the instructions provided with your software. If you do not have a firewall turned on, you can skip this section entirely.
-
Select Start Menu, Control Panel, and open the Security Center
-
Select Windows Firewall
-
Select the Exceptions tab
-
Select Add Port
-
Configure the settings as shown and click OK
- Name: DigiNet Pop-up
- Port Number: 6182
-
Select: TCP
-
Select OK again
Congratulations! Your Windows XP computer is now setup for DigiNet. Every time you want to print make sure you’re on the Biola Network and you have the DigiNet Pop-up page open. The java applet’s certificate may not be automatically accepted by your browser. Add the authority to your trusted list or select trust every time you visit the page.
