Install on Windows
If your computer has Windows XP, Vista or Windows 2000, you must install the Clean Access agent on your system in order to access Biola’s network. This guide will walk you through the basic installation and setup of Clean Access in order to help you connect to Biola’s network-based resources and the Internet.
When you first plug in your computer via Ethernet in your residence hall you should be able to access a few websites, including Biola’s Portal. When you try to navigate to a new website, you will be redirected to a login page. Type in your Biola NetID and NetID password and click “Log me in!”
The next page will present some information about Clean Access and a button you can click in order to download the Clean Access Agent software.
After clicking the button, save the installer to your desktop, then find and run the installer on your computer.
A welcome dialog box will pop up, prompting you to begin the Clean Access agent software installation. Click Next and continue through the installation process.
After the installation completes, the Clean Access agent will start up and ask you to login. Enter your Biola NetID and NetID password, then click Login.
After you login, the Clean Access agent will check your computer to make sure that it meets Biola’s network security requirements. If your computer fails to meet a requirement, the agent will give you temporary access to allow you to bring your computer up to date. Click Continue to begin this process.
Clean Access will first try to verify that you have Automatic Updates enabled in Windows. To enable, click your Start menu, Control Panel, and open the Security Center. In the Security Center, click on “Automatic Updates.”
Ensure that the “Automatic (recommended)” option is selected, then click OK.
Next, Clean Access will ensure that you have an antivirus application installed with an up-to-date antivirus definition file. If you do not have an antivirus application installed, you will be given a link to visit Biola’s Computer Security for Students page where you will find instructions for installing a free antivirus program. Click on the Go To Link button to go to the page.
Click on the link in the Antivirus Software section to be taken to AVG’s Free Antivirus website.
Download and install AVG Free Antivirus. You do not need to download the “AVG Download Manager,” just the first file on the list.
Lastly, Clean Access will attempt to verify that your computer has the latest Windows Critical Updates from Microsoft. If it determines that your computer is not up-to-date, the agent will give you a “Go To Link” button that will take you to Microsoft’s Windows Update website.
When you arrive at Microsoft’s Windows Update website, click the Express button to locate the appropriate updates for your computer.
Click Install Updates to download and install the high-priority updates.

Once the updates have been installed, you may be required to restart your computer. Restart, or just click Close if a reboot is not required, and then log back into the Clean Access agent. The last requirement you should see within the agent is a link to read the Network Usage Policy. Click the link to read the policy, then click the Accept button to agree to the policy and be granted access to the network.
You have successfully logged in! Click OK to exit the Clean Access Agent and begin using the network.
