Employee Mobile Device Technical Standard
A New Yet-To-Be-Deployed Service for Employees: Push Email, Calendar Events, and Contacts
Information Technology will be introducing a new service in the next 6 to 9 months (depending on budget availability) that enables Biola’s email server to wirelessly push email, calendar events, and contacts to mobile devices over a secure connection. This new service will use ActiveSync to keep users connected wherever they go.
While this new service is a yet-to-be deployed solution, Information Technology would like to encourage employees who wish to make use of data on their mobile devices to acquire a device that uses ActiveSync.
ActiveSync is available on many data-capable phones, including Apple’s iPhone. For assistance selecting a mobile device that meets Biola’s data integration technical standards, please contact the IT Helpdesk. Once this technology is deployed, Information Technology will only approve data stipend requests for mobile devices that meet this technical standard.
Excerpt from the Mobile Communications Expense Policy, section 6.82 in the employee handbook:
If a data service and smart phone are required, the phone/service must be compatible with the published Biola data integration technical standard in order to receive a stipend. IT will review and approve the application to ensure compliance.
