Employee Handbook Updates
Last Revision: May 15th, 2012
The following sections of the employee handbook have been updated. While the information found on this website has been updated, those who have a hard copy of the handbook should download, print, and replace the appropriate sections by clicking "Print Version" from the tops of the respective sections.
- Section 3.2: Discrimination & Sexual Harrassment (Including Sexual Assault)
- Updated policy to include Title IX Coordinator and Deputy Coordinators; other minor changes.
- Section 2.7: Rest and Meal Periods
- Changed policy on meal periods, giving employees the ability to choose to waive or delay their meal break, with supervisor consent.
- Section 6.36: Use of Portable Electric Space Heaters
- Added new policy on use of portable electric space heaters.
- Section 1.5: Administrative Organization
- Changed "resources" to "tools" in final paragraph that details where to find the Organizational Chart on Inside Story Online
- Section 2.81: Employee Receptions
- Minor revision; changed the word "check" to "monetary gift"
- Section 3.31: Injury/Illness Prevention Program
- Updated Human Resources extension to contact
- Section 5.17: Bereavement Leave
- Added "paid leave eligible" wording to first paragraph.
- Section 5.1: Vacations
- Made slight revisions to clarify the Annual Vacation Levels and Accrual Formula sections for employees who work less than 40 hours per week.
- Section 5.14: Sick Leave
- Added "12 months per year" in the section describing prorated sick leave.
- Section 4.23: Values Award Program
- Removed obsolete references (i.e. Inside Story print edition).
- Section 2.36: New Employee Orientation
- Revised content covered during Biola 201 Orientation.
- Section 1.6: Staying Informed
- Deleted Inside Story print edition description and updated features available on Inside Story Online; changed Employee Meetings and AMT Meetings to "quarterly" instead of "bi-monthly."
- Section 5.23: Vision Care Insurance
- Removed information pertaining to the plan previously utilized. Added wording regarding an allowance for frames to be purchased every 24 months.
- Section 5.22: Dental Insurance
- Minor revision: changed "the same" to "similar" in the orthodontia coverage section.
- Section 5.21: Health Insurance
- Prescription drug co-pay amount was decreased from $40 to $35. Slight revisions in the explanation of types of insurance plans Biola offers.
- Section 5.2: Cafeteria Plan
- Changed "eye glasses and contact lenses" to "eyewear and prescriptions" in the section discussing medical care reimbursement accounts
- Section 0.0: Biola Stylebook
- Added "gender-neutral language" section in place of "gender"
